About KATSEYE

KATSEYE is a six-member girl group based in Los Angeles, with members rooted in the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States, which is why they get tagged as a global girl group. The project came together through The Debut: Dream Academy, a 2023 reality competition series run as a joint venture between Hybe and Geffen Records. More than 120,000 hopefuls applied, 20 finalists spent a year training in Los Angeles under methods drawn from the Korean idol trainee system, and the winning six were named on November 18, 2023. The formation story plays out in the Netflix docuseries Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, and the name itself comes from the cat's eye gemstone, whose light shifts depending on the angle you view it from. Member Lara suggested the stylized spelling, and it stuck.

KATSEYE debuted in June 2024 with the single "Debut" and leveled up fast. "Touch", a melodic drum-and-bass R&B track, became the breakthrough when its choreography took over TikTok as a dance challenge in September 2024. The first EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong), arrived that August and put KATSEYE at number one on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart. From there the milestones stacked up. "Gnarly" (2025) gave them their first Billboard Hot 100 entry, the EP Beautiful Chaos opened at number four on the Billboard 200, "Gabriela" climbed into the Hot 100's top 40 and picked up a Grammy nomination, and the third EP, Wild (2026), became their first number one on the Billboard 200.

Live is where the hybrid identity pays off. KATSEYE pairs American pop songcraft with K-pop-caliber choreography, a blend member Daniela describes as making American pop music with the performance standards of K-pop training. The visual side is just as considered, built on Y2K staples like low-rise denim, crop tops, and archival pieces under creative director Humberto Leon. The stage resume grew quickly, from Wango Tango and Lollapalooza in Chicago to a Coachella set, a Lollapalooza Argentina performance for a crowd of roughly 100,000, and a first headlining concert tour, the Beautiful Chaos Tour, in 2025. For fans scanning KATSEYE tickets, the timeline says plenty: the run from debut single to a Billboard 200 number one took just over two years.

Who are the members of KATSEYE?

KATSEYE has six members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung.
  • Daniela Avanzini: an Atlanta-born dancer who competed in dancesport from age three, appeared on America's Got Talent, and finished in the top 10 on So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.
  • Lara Raj: a singer and actress who appeared in a 2018 campaign video for Michelle Obama's Global Girls Alliance.
  • Manon Bannerman: a Swiss model and content creator who built a following with fashion and lifestyle clips on TikTok and Instagram.
  • Megan Skiendiel: a performer trained in professional dance from a young age.
  • Sophia Laforteza: the leader, a singer who started performing at age three and is the daughter of Filipino musical theater actress Carla Guevara Laforteza.
  • Yoonchae Jeung: the youngest member, a South Korea native who trained as a K-pop trainee before joining Dream Academy.
The lineup also marked a first for Hybe, with Lara, Sophia, Daniela, and Manon becoming the label's first Indian, Filipina, Latina, and Black artists, respectively.

What are KATSEYE's most popular songs?

KATSEYE's catalog spans three EPs and a run of standalone singles, with these tracks as the ones fans know best:
  • "Debut" (2024): their first single, an upbeat pop track about confidence and sisterhood.
  • "Touch" (2024): the breakthrough single, a melodic drum-and-bass R&B track whose choreography went viral on TikTok.
  • "Gnarly" (2025): their first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • "Gabriela" (2025): co-written by Charli XCX, a top 40 Hot 100 hit that earned a Grammy nomination.
  • "Gameboy" (2025): the third single from Beautiful Chaos.
  • "Internet Girl" (2026): first performed live on the group's debut tour.
  • "Pinky Up" (2026): released to coincide with their Coachella performance.
  • "Animal" (2026): a number-one single in Australia.
  • "Iconic by Mistake" (2026): a collaboration with Hybe labelmates Le Sserafim and Illit.

What awards has KATSEYE won?

KATSEYE's headline win came at the 2026 American Music Awards, where they swept all three of their nominations, including New Artist of the Year. The rest of the recognition list:
  • Two nominations at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards: Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Gabriela".
  • TikTok's Global Artist of the Year honor in 2025, citing more than 30 billion views on the platform.
  • A spot on Teen Vogue's "Girl Groups to Watch in 2024" list, named before the group had even debuted.
  • Number two among trending musicians in Google's 2025 U.S. Year in Search review.

What is the KATSEYE fandom called?

KATSEYE fans are known as EYEKONS. The community is loudest online, which fits a group whose breakthrough came from a TikTok dance challenge: fans learn the "Touch" choreography, trade clips, and helped push the group past 30 billion views on the platform. The fandom also stretches across the members' home countries and well beyond, matching the global girl group identity. In 2025 KATSEYE appeared as guest characters in Toca Boca World, where fans could step into the game as the group's honorary "seventh member". For anyone holding KATSEYE tickets, the crowd is as much a part of the show as the choreography.
