The Jacksonville Jaguars joined the NFL as an expansion team founded on November 30, 1993, and took the field for the first time in 1995 alongside the Carolina Panthers. The franchise spent its early years in the AFC Central before moving to the AFC South in 2002, and original majority owner Wayne Weaver guided the club until Shahid Khan purchased it in 2012.
The Jaguars built one of the fastest starts of any modern expansion team. They reached the playoffs in each of their second through fifth seasons, won division titles in 1998 and 1999, and made AFC Championship Game appearances in 1996 and 1999, capped by a franchise-best 14-2 regular season in 1999. The team climbed back to the AFC Championship Game in 2017 behind a defense that earned the Sacksonville nickname, then delivered a 31-30 Wild Card win in 2022 after trailing 27-0, the third-largest comeback in NFL postseason history.
EverBank Stadium has been the Jaguars' home since 1995, sitting on the north bank of the St. Johns River with a capacity of about 67,814. The teal, black, and gold color scheme gives game days a look unlike any other NFL market, and the riverside tailgating scene is a central part of the experience for Jacksonville fans.
