Don Toliver, born Caleb Zackery Toliver on June 12, 1994, came up in Alief, a southwest Houston neighborhood that also produced Beyoncé and Lizzo. Music filled the house from the start: his father was a singer and rapper tied to the independent Houston label Swishahouse, and Toliver grew up on everything from Michael Jackson and Usher to Swishahouse mixtape classics. That background feeds a sound that folds psychedelic rap, hip-hop, trap, and R&B into one moody, melodic package, built on a voice that slips easily between rapping and singing.
The 2017 collaborative mixtape Playa Familia with Yungjosh93 marked his first release, and the solo singles "I Gotta" and "Diva" later that year put him on Houston's radar. He signed with Atlantic Records in March 2018, and his major-label debut mixtape, Donny Womack, landed on August 2 of that year. The next day, Travis Scott's album Astroworld arrived with Toliver featured on the track "Can't Say," a placement that put his voice in front of a massive audience. Within days he had signed to Scott's Cactus Jack imprint, a joint venture with Atlantic, and that partnership became the engine of his rise.
The run since has been one long climb. His debut studio album, Heaven or Hell, arrived in March 2020 with features from Travis Scott, Quavo, Offset, Kaash Paige, and Sheck Wes, and its single "No Idea" became a viral sensation on TikTok. That August, "Lemonade," his collaboration with Internet Money and Gunna, gave him his first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Life of a Don followed in October 2021, with Love Sick in 2023 and Hardstone Psycho in 2024, before he reunited with his Cactus Jack labelmates for the JackBoys 2 collective album in 2025. In January 2026 he released Octane, an 18-track album that became his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "E85" and "Body" gave him his first No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart, all 18 tracks reached the Billboard Hot 100, and the album spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
