For someone originally trained as an opera singer, Tyler Farr is sure making his mark on the world of country music. In just a few years, the onetime choir boy has become a country radio staple, achieved two hit albums and won over celebrity fans like musician Jason Aldean.

Tyler Farr's background

Tyler Farr was born in Missouri in 1984 and studied voice at Missouri State University. As a teen, he was a tenor in the Missouri All-State Choir, which inspired him to become a classically trained opera singer. It was Farr's stepfather, Dwayne Phillips, a guitarist in American singer-songwriter George Jones's band, who introduced him to country music. At the age of 16, he accompanied Phillips on tour, and this taste of the life of a musician was enough to ensure his dedication to making it in the music industry.

Before he became known as a singer, Farr got his first break on the country music scene writing for other artists. His early work as a songwriter included the tracks "Hey Y'all" by chart-topping singer Cole Swindell and "She's Just Like That" by Joe Nichols. Little did they know that Farr would soon be sitting alongside them on the Billboard charts and radio playlists, signed to the Columbia Nashville label.

For his own debut single, "Hot Mess," Farr shared writing credits with country legend Rhett Akins. The song reached the Top 50 on the Billboard Hot Country chart, but his bonafide breakthrough moment came with his third single, "Redneck Crazy."

"Redneck Crazy" was Farr's first Top 10 hit, and reached Platinum sales status in the U.S. It was also the title of the singer's debut album in 2013. Another single, "Whiskey in My Water," was certified Gold.

Farr's second album, Suffer In Peace, matched the success of his debut, as both reached No. 2 on the U.S. Country album chart. To promote the album, he made his biggest TV performance yet, on NBC's Today show. In 2015, Rolling Stone selected his new record as one of their top 40 country albums of the year, and he released a hit duet, "Damn Good Friends," with tourmate Aldean.
