Sombr Auckland tickets

Sombr is the project of Shane Michael Boose, a singer-songwriter and self-taught producer from New York City's Lower East Side who turned bedroom recordings into a full-scale indie rock career. Born on July 5, 2005, Boose grew up around creative work: his father founded an event production company and his mother works in public relations. He started layering tracks in GarageBand near the end of elementary school, moved to Logic Pro in middle school, and by high school was producing his own material rather than handing it off to outside producers.

He attended LaGuardia High School as a vocal major but left during his junior year after his 2022 single "Caroline" took off online. The stage name Sombr, adopted alongside his debut single, folds in his initials and a nod to the headspace he was in at the time. His debut single "Nothing Left to Say" arrived in October 2021, and the momentum from "Caroline" led to a deal with Warner Records and his first label single, "Weak," in early 2023. His debut EP, In Another Life, followed in September 2023, co-produced by Tony Berg.

The breakthrough came in 2025, when "Back to Friends" and "Undressed" caught fire on TikTok and climbed into the top 20 of both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200. "Undressed" topped the Irish Singles Chart and hit the top five in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, while "Back to Friends" reached the top five in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. His debut album, I Barely Know Her, landed in August 2025 and drew praise from Rolling Stone, NME, and Variety on its way to the top ten of the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. Sombr's sound runs through indie rock, indie pop, and alternative rock, with Jeff Buckley and Radiohead as his most-cited influences.
