Giancarlo Stanton became the first Marlin to win a National League MVP in 2017, and in 2020 Kim Ng became the first woman to serve as general manager of a major American professional sports franchise.
Gameday in Miami has its own identity. The franchise debuted the Marlins Mermaids in 2003 as the first dance and cheer squad in Major League Baseball, an innovation other clubs went on to copy, and followed in 2008 with the Manatees, the league's first all-male dance squad.
