Delving into deeply personal topics with a refreshing honesty, Earle captivates audiences with his gentle acoustic songs, sophisticated technique and candid content. Catch him live at concerts at major venues across the U.S.
Justin Townes Earle's background
Justin Townes Earle grew up in South Nashville, Tenn., the son of Steve Earle, the outlaw country musician responsible for hits such as "Copperhead Road." Egged on by the success of his father, the young musician got his start in some early bands during his teens, including rock band The Distributors as well as The Swindlers, a bluegrass acoustic combo. He also spent some time touring as a member of the Dukes, his father's backing band, before personal problems forced him to take some time away from music.
But by 2007, Earle was back on the scene with the release of his debut EP, Yuma. After signing to Bloodshot Records, he followed the success of his EP with his debut album, 2008's The Good Life. In the years that followed, Earle would release his second album, 2009's Midnight at the Movies, and enjoy a stint touring with big names such as the Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings on The Big Surprise Tour.
Earle found his true break with the release of Harlem River Blues in 2010. Rising to No. 47 on the Billboard 200 chart, the album fared even better on the Independent Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts. "Harlem River Blues," the album's title track, was recognized with the Americana Music Award the following year.
Justin Townes Earle's later discography
In 2012, Earle rode on the success of his prior work with the new album, Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now. Rising to No. 62 on the Billboard 200 chart, the album was also recognized on Rolling Stone's list of the best 50 albums of 2012.
Earle's music has taken a new and even more personal turn with the release of companion albums Single Mothers and Absent Fathers in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
