American singer-songwriter John Hiatt entered the heartland rock scene in the early 1970s when "Sure as I'm Sitting Here," a song he'd written for record label Tree International, was covered by Three Dog Night. He would go on to achieve more personal recognition with the title track from his 1987 album, Bring the Family. Though Hiatt is a prolific performer with 22 studio albums to his credit, his influence can be clearly seen in fellow artists like Bonnie Raitt and The Jeff Healey Band, who have had great success with Hiatt-penned cover tracks "Thing Called Love" and "Angel Eyes," respectively. His sound contains elements of folk rock and Americana, eschewing a traditional country-western vibe for a more authentic, soulful musical experience.
