Known as the "Queen of Folk," Joan Baez started out strong with her first three albums reaching gold status, and she has remained a stalwart in the world of folk music ever since. Beginning with the release of her first album Folksingers' Round Harvard Square in 1959, she has put out 26 studio albums, 12 live albums and three EPs and has composed or contributed to three movie soundtracks and 21 compilations either exclusively or with other artists. Her career was marked by a long period as on-again/off-again friend, musical collaborator and lover with fellow folk legend Bob Dylan. Baez has recorded songs in English and Spanish, in both of which she's fluent, as well as six other languages. She also performed at the original Woodstock Festival. Still performing today, she's already earned her place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017.Saving the World One Song at a Time

The many causes she's fought for include civil rights, ending the Vietnam war, ending the death penalty, LGBT rights, human rights in Iran, saving the California redwoods, ending the war in Iraq and supporting the Occupy Wall Street movement. In March of 2011, Amnesty International honored Joan Baez for her activism by creating an award in her name, the Joan Baez Award for Outstanding Inspirational Service in the Global Fight for Human Rights.
