Formula 1 is the highest class of open-wheel, single-seater racing in the world, sanctioned by the FIA and running since its inaugural season in 1950. A Formula 1 season consists of a series of Grands Prix held across multiple countries and continents, on purpose-built circuits and street courses alike. Two championships are contested each year: one for drivers and one for constructors. The combination of cutting-edge engineering, global reach, and wheel-to-wheel competition at speeds exceeding 200 mph makes attending a Formula 1 Grand Prix one of the most intense live sporting experiences available.
Formula 1 cars generate massive aerodynamic downforce through front and rear wings and underbody tunnels, allowing them to pull up to 6.5 gs in corners and 6 gs under braking. Drivers endure cockpit temperatures that can reach 60 degrees Celsius while burning roughly 1,000 calories per hour over the course of a race. The physical demands alone set Formula 1 apart from virtually every other motorsport category. Races unfold on iconic circuits like Silverstone Circuit, the Circuit de Monaco, and the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, each with its own character and atmosphere that fans travel from around the world to experience.
The sport's history runs deep. Giuseppe Farina won the first Drivers' World Championship in 1950 with Alfa Romeo, and Juan Manuel Fangio followed with five titles across the 1950s. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton each hold the all-time record with seven championships. On the constructors' side, Ferrari leads with 16 titles and remains the only team to have competed in every season since the championship began. Teams like Mercedes and Red Bull Racing have shaped the modern era with dominant championship runs of their own.
