Formed in 1985 in Toronto, Canada, the Cowboy Junkies, often stylized as the Junkies, originally consisted of five members. The original members included Michael Timmins, the band's songwriter and guitar player, drummer Peter Timmins, vocalist Margo Timmins, John Timmins and bassist Alan Anton. While Michael, Peter, John and Margo are siblings, Anton worked with Michael in previous bands. To date, the band has released 16 studio albums and five live ones, with most of the band's albums focusing on a theme. In 2015, the Cowboy Junkies were inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame, and the band currently continues to tour and perform in venues around the world. The Cowboy Junkies Come Out of the Garage
John Timmins left the Cowboy Junkies prior to the release of the band's 1986 debut album, Whites Off Earth Now!!. The band recorded the album in the Timmins' family garage using an ambisonic microphone. The album also featured music inspired by the blues. While Whites Off Earth Now!! did not make much of an impact in the United States, the sophomore album, The Trinity Session, recorded in 1987, brought the Junkies worldwide attention. This second album featured a mix of musical genres ranging from blues, folk, country, rock and jazz. In 1988, the Los Angeles Times named it one of the best albums of that year. Additionally, the album was included in the book, 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The Junkies cited its third album, The Caution Horses, as the band's favorite, despite recording it three times to achieve the desired sound. The fourth album, Black Eyed Man, played around with tempo shifts and Margo's signature melodic and quiet signing voice. The band closed out the '90s with Miles from Our Home, an alternative country album. By the 2000s, the Junkies continued to experiment with its sound while touring. The band toured to support its live album, Waltz Across America. During this tour, the band changed how it recorded new material. This time around, the Cowboy Junkies added new tracks to its live performances. The band then took the tracks and rerecorded them for the 2001 Open. To this day, the Junkies prefer touring as the members feel it showcases the band's personality.Where can I buy Cowboy Junkies tickets?
