CMA Music Festival History
The CMA Music Festival was created in 1972. Over the years, as the event has grown, the festival changed locations throughout Nashville, Tenn. to accommodate parking, camping and the many activities and attractions the show puts on each year. 2001 brought the largest changes to the event as it switched its name from Fan Fair to the CMA Music Festival. During this time, performances started being held throughout the weekend rather than during the week, and the location was changed from its longtime home at the Tenneessee State Fairgrounds to various venues in downtown Nashville. The event's former location, the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, was then converted to temporary camping space to accommodate the large volume of attendees.
