Get ready for F1 action 'Down Under'
Formula One introduced its Grand Prix series to Australia in 1985 which was held at the Adelaide Street Circuit in South Australia and it is estimated that over half a million people attended the inaugural race that was won by Keke Rosberg representing the Williams-Honda team. The South Australia venue would go on to host F1 Grands Prix for the next ten years including such unforgettable races as 1990 contest which saw Nelson Piquet outduel Nigel Mansell in an exciting race that also represented the 500th edition of the World Championship. F1 Australia joins Formula One British Grand Prix, Brazilian Grand Prix and Singapore Grand Prix as F1 contests held during the racing season. Another memorable and controversial race occurred in 1994, that saw Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher in a tight contest for that year's championship title. The German driver would collide with Hill in hair-raising fashion forcing both drivers out of the race, essentially handing him the drivers' championship much to the Briton's chagrin as Mansell took the chequered flag. Join the thousands on race day in Melbourne
1995 would see the last Grand Prix held at the Adelaide Circuit as Albert Park in Melbourne took over duties as the host in 1996, once again to astronomical attendance figures and the crowd on that day would bear witness to another spectacular contest as Damon Hill was first to the finish line. Three years later, Ferrari would record its first victory in Australia when driver Eddie Irvine recorded his first ever win. Multiple winners of F1 Australia include David Coulthard, Nico Rosberg and Austrian Gerhard Berger. F1 Australia is historically the opening race of the season due to its geographical location but it could just as easily claim the spot due to the massive crowds that descend on Melbourne to view the race each year. Spectators can always expect a weekend of entertaining drama starting with Friday's practice rounds, through the edge-of-your-seat pressure of grid qualification on Saturday, to the exhilaration of lights out on Sunday. Reserve your seats while they last. F1 Australia tickets are available now for purchase or sale via StubHub.
