About WNBA All Star Game
The WNBA All-Star Game is the premier showcase for women's basketball, bringing the league's best players together each July for a three-day All-Star Weekend. First played at Madison Square Garden on July 14, 1999, the event has grown into one of the most anticipated dates on the WNBA calendar. Lisa Leslie earned MVP honors in that inaugural game after leading the Western Conference to a 79 to 61 victory in front of a sold-out crowd in New York City.
From 1999 through 2017, the game pitted the Western Conference against the Eastern Conference, with starters chosen through fan voting and reserves selected by head coaches. The format shifted in 2018 to a captain-driven player draft, where the two highest vote-getters pick their rosters from the full All-Star pool regardless of conference. The 2018 format change also introduced a weighted voting system with fans accounting for 50 percent, players 25 percent, and media members 25 percent. Beyond the main game, All-Star Weekend features a Three-Point Contest and a Shooting Stars team competition introduced in 2026 for the league's 30th anniversary, pairing current WNBA players with high school standouts and retired legends.
The game has traveled to cities across the country, from Phoenix and Orlando to Las Vegas, Chicago, and Indianapolis. Each host city brings its own atmosphere to the weekend, and the energy in the building reflects the reach of the WNBA. Whether it is a packed arena in Uncasville, Connecticut or a major market showcase, WNBA All Star Game tickets put you inside the room where the league's biggest stars compete on the same floor.
