About LAFC
Los Angeles FC, known everywhere simply as LAFC, made one of the loudest entrances in Major League Soccer history. Established on October 30, 2014, the club signed Mexican star Carlos Vela as its first designated player, debuted as an expansion team in 2018, and promptly produced the best inaugural regular season by an MLS expansion team, finishing with 57 points. Nicknamed the Black and Gold, LAFC also arrived with one of the most star-studded ownership groups in sports, a list that includes Will Ferrell, Magic Johnson, and Mia Hamm.
The trophies followed fast. In 2019, the club's second season, LAFC won the Supporters' Shield with a then-record 72 points while Vela claimed the league MVP Award and the Golden Boot, scoring 34 times to set a single-season league record. The defining run came in 2022, when LAFC completed a league double, pairing a second Supporters' Shield with the club's first MLS Cup. The final against the Philadelphia Union ended 3-3 after Gareth Bale's equalizer in the 128th minute, one of the latest goals in MLS Cup Playoffs history, and LAFC prevailed 3-0 in the shootout behind two saves from goalkeeper John McCarthy, the match's MVP. LAFC added its first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2024 with a 3-1 final win over Sporting Kansas City, and it reached the CONCACAF Champions League final in both 2020 and 2023.
Every home match unfolds at BMO Stadium, a 22,000-seat soccer-specific ground in Exposition Park that opened in April 2018 and carried the name Banc of California Stadium until 2023. The seats hug the pitch, the safe-standing North End never sits quiet, and recent-season attendance has hovered right at that 22,000 mark. Add in the parade of global names who have worn the shirt, from Vela and Bale to Giorgio Chiellini, Olivier Giroud, Hugo Lloris, and Son Heung-min, and the appeal of LAFC tickets is easy to understand: a packed, purpose-built stadium and a young club that started collecting silverware in only its second season.
