John Mulaney is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer from Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in an Irish Catholic family on the city's North Side, graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in 2000, and studied English and theology at Georgetown University. It was at Georgetown that he found his footing in comedy, joining the school's improv group and meeting future collaborators Nick Kroll and Mike Birbiglia. After graduating in 2004, Mulaney moved to New York City, took a job as an office assistant at Comedy Central, and began building a career in stand-up.

Mulaney's breakthrough came when he joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live in 2008. Over four seasons, he wrote host monologues and co-created the beloved Weekend Update character Stefon with Bill Hader. Since leaving the writing room, Mulaney has returned to host the show six times, joining the SNL Five-Timers Club in 2022. His stand-up specials, including The Top Part (2009), New in Town (2012), The Comeback Kid (2015), Kid Gorgeous (2018), and Baby J (2023), have earned him a reputation as one of the sharpest and most polished storytellers in comedy. The Kid Gorgeous tour included seven sold-out performances at Radio City Music Hall in 2018.

Beyond stand-up, Mulaney has built a wide-ranging career across television and film. He co-created and starred in the Broadway show Oh, Hello alongside Nick Kroll from 2016 to 2017, served as a co-executive producer and writer on the IFC mockumentary series Documentary Now!, voiced Andrew Glouberman in the Netflix animated series Big Mouth (2017 to 2025), and played Spider-Ham in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). He also created and hosted the Netflix live talk show Everybody's in LA in 2024 and its spinoff Everybody's Live with John Mulaney in 2025. His comedy blends observational humor, surreal storytelling, and sharp satire, drawing on subjects like childhood, social awkwardness, and American pop culture.
