The Arizona Cardinals carry more history than almost any team in professional football. Founded in 1898, the franchise is the oldest continuously run professional football team in the United States, and one of only two NFL charter members from the league's 1920 inaugural season still in operation, alongside the Chicago Bears. The Cardinals compete in the NFC West and play their home games at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, northwest of Phoenix, and the story behind Cardinals tickets spans more of professional football history than any other team's.
The origin story is as good as it gets. The team began in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club on Chicago's South Side, and the nickname took hold a few years later, when owner Chris O'Brien bought used jerseys from the University of Chicago and described the faded maroon as cardinal red. The franchise won NFL championships in 1925 and 1947, beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1947 title game before losing the 1948 rematch 7-0 in a Philadelphia snowstorm. After 28 seasons in St. Louis from 1960 to 1987, where locals knew them as the Big Red, the team moved to Tempe in 1988, adopted the Arizona Cardinals name in 1994, and settled into its current Glendale home in 2006.
The defining stretch of the Arizona era came in the 2008 season. Led by quarterback Kurt Warner, the Cardinals won the NFC Championship Game against the Eagles and reached the first Super Bowl in franchise history, where the Pittsburgh Steelers won 27-23 in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIII. On game days, the fanbase known as the Red Sea fills State Farm Stadium with cardinal red, and matchups against the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers are the games circled first on the schedule.
